Carpal Tunnel FAQS

Carpal Tunnel FAQs

What Is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

At the base of your palm, you have an anatomical structure known as the carpal tunnel: a small opening made by ligaments and bones. It provides a small space for tendons, nerves, and blood vessels to pass through your wrist and into your hand. In a person with carpal tunnel syndrome, the median nerve becomes compressed as it passes through the carpal tunnel. Causes of this compression include swelling caused by direct trauma to the wrist, repetitive hand movements, or poor body mechanics.

How Do I Know If I Have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

If you have carpal tunnel syndrome, you'll likely notice uncomfortable symptoms including:

  • Pain, numbness, and tingling in the palm, thumb, index finger, and middle finger
  • Pain and numbness that is worse first thing in the morning
  • Feeling like you need to "shake out" your hands

Certain factors, like being female, having diabetes or doing a lot of fine motor tasks (like typing, sewing, or assembly line work), may increase your risk of this condition.

How Can Chiropractic Care Help Heal My Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

At Eulo Chiropractic Center, our Sewell chiropractor offers several non-invasive and drug-free techniques that can relieve your carpal tunnel syndrome by addressing the root (or roots) of the problem:

  • Decrease pain, swelling, and inflammation with corrective exercises, soft tissue massage, electrical stimulation, and cold and heat therapy
  • Improve workspace ergonomics and body mechanics through postural re-training and lifestyle counseling
  • Reduce pain signals and relieve sensory impairments through spinal adjustments
